Tobey Maguire Gives Us Afterburn

Tobey Maguire brings us another post-apocalyptic Earth. Another.
Tobey Maguire is the latest to spring another comic book adaptation on us. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maguire, along with Neal Moritz’s Original Films, is producing an adaptation of Red 5 Comics’s Afterburn. Tomorrow I’ll announce that I’m producing my own comic book adaptation because everyone else is, so why should I be left out?
What is this “Afterburn”, you may ask. Well, let me tell you–written by Paul Ens and Scott Chitwood, it’s set in a post-apocalyptic Earth (of course it’s set in a post-apocalyptic Earth. Everything is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth. I am looking forward to a sci fi comic book set in a pre-apocalyptic Earth), after the Eastern Hemisphere has been destroyed, leaving behind life forms mutated and damaged by radiation. Treasure hunters work the grounds extracting cultural and historical treasures such as the Rosetta Stone and Mona Lisa for a price. Mutants, pirates, and rival gangs of hunters are involved.
Okay, it doesn’t sound good. Maguire’s been trying out producing for a while–he has producer credits for The 25th Hour, Seabiscuit, and the currently filming Tokyo Suckerpunch. Good for him, because no matter how big a star you are, if you count 100% on acting, you’re asking for trouble. That said, I like Maguire a lot and would like to see more of him onscreen. He’s got a bit in Tropic Thunder, no big deal, and is in Brothers, the remake of a Danish film, which I think just finished shooting. He’s also supposedly in the aforementioned Tokyo Suckerpunch. Do some interesting stuff, Tobey, I think you’ve got it in you.
