More Avatar! Lots of Avatar!
We’ve heard for a long time that James Cameron was planning to make two “Avatar” sequels back to back, but now we have word that there may be four sequels! Oh, there are so many climate issues and colors to paint people!
Showbiz411 has this note about “Avatar” cast member Sigourney Weaver. I’d love to give you a link to the Showbiz411 article but it appears to be broken, so thank you to ComingSoon for this quote:
When “Political Animals” finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films “Avatar” 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron. That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. “I just show up,” she said.
I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Cameron’s vision has gotten a little more grandiose. Two sequels, three sequels, what’s the difference? The only thing that seems suspicious is the idea that not one, not two, but three scripts are far enough along that Cameron is putting together a production schedule where he can tell Weaver, “Please be available between these dates.”
It seems like technologically this shouldn’t be as big a deal as the first “Avatar,” which seemed like it took forever to shoot, partly because, as Cameron has acknowledged, they were more or less creating new technology as they went along. So maybe that has allowed Cameron and whoever else is involved in writing (I doubt he’s doing it all himself) to focus on the scripts… Well, we’ll see if anymore info related to an additional film comes out; luckily, Cameron isn’t shy about sharing his plans.
