Thor Story Rumors: How He Gets a Clue and Joins This Century

If he had a hammer, oh wait, he does…
Have you been worried about Thor? No? Well, just thought I’d ask. Anyway, whether you were thinking about our hammer-wielding Norse friend or not, here’s some more info on his film and how it will relate to “The Avengers.”
IESB reports that the original draft of the script they read of the Thor film (handily named “Thor”) focused solely on Thor’s life in the ancient Norse kingdom of Asgard, his relationship with his father Odin and rivalry and battle with his brother Loki. That’s fine, but “The Avengers” is set in the present, so how to get him into the future (aside from having him drop from a tornado, or suddenly appear in an IKEA store or something like that).
Well, apparently a new version of the Thor script includes a new modern-day scene that introduces Thor’s modern alter ego, Donald Blake. So presumably Blake will be part of the character in “The Avengers.” No word yet, it seems, on how far along Blake will be, as in will he fully discover his Thor side and powers in the first film, or will they incorporate that into “The Avengers”?
Also, IESB says that “Thor” director Kenneth Branagh will play a part in the film as well stand behind the camera and yell at the actors. Glad to have you, Ken!
“Thor” is set to be released on July 16, 2010 and “The Avengers” on July 15, 2011.
