The X-Files Returns to TV (Sorry, It’s Only a Commercial)

I want to believe…that the X-Files sequel will be better than the tepid commercial.
And we have a TV commercial for The X-Files: I Want to Believe. See what you think (tip to the clip courtesy of Coming soon).
I’m not particularly wild about this commercial myself. It seems like kind of a generic action movie and that’s the last thing I would expect from The X-Files. I know Chris Carter is dying to keep everything under wraps, but with this trailer all I get is, “It takes place somewhere snowy.” If I didn’t know the show and didn’t have great affection for it (which, of course, I do), I would watch this and shrug, saying something like, “Hmmm, lots of people in the snow, looking up at the sky and stuff. I don’t get why I should be interested in this movie as opposed to anything else opening up this summer.”
We know the hardcore fans will show up when the movie opens (yeah, me too…). Is it going to need strong word of mouth to bring in others? But that means it will have to survive a tough opening weekend, in The Dark Knight’s second week, no less. Good luck to all.

Of course lukewarm articles like this really compound the buzz, don’t they! Honestly, why bother?
I for one can’t wait!It IS the ”motion picture event of the summer” for me and lots of others.
July 25th can’t come quick enough!!!
P.s That trailer freaks the crap out of me. Then again I’m one of those people who have managed to retain an imagination over the years. That extends to my bank balance as a well but I happen to like playing guessing games. I’m GLAD I don’t know anything about the plot for once. Imagine! Going to the cinema and not having seen the entire film in 2 and a half minutes! Ingenious!
Sigh.
