The Twilight/New Moon Actor Roundabout

Ben Barnes Prince Caspian

It will come as no surprise to regular readers that I’m not a fan of the Twilight series of books, mainly because I’m not a teenage girl with a crush on a vampire. So the movies aren’t really my thing either, and when my girlfriend goes to see the film when it opens in the UK on Friday I probably won’t be going. If I do, it’ll only be to give it a scathing review.

But despite this there seems to be lots of folk out there (those messed up teens mainly) who adore the series and need the movies to live up to the books. Twilight seems to have received very mixed reviews so the next book to movie translation has a lot riding on it. New Moon is set for release in November, 2009, and there may be some big changes to the cast and crew.

We already know that Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has been replaced with Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass) for the next installment, and there now seems to be some intense rivalry brewing over a couple of the high-profile acting roles.

MTV Movies reports how Scorpion King 2 actor Michael Copon is the early front runner to play the new, larger Jacob Black. While Ben Barnes (pictured above) is vying for the role of Aro the mind-reading vampire who meets Edward and Bella in New Moon.

I really haven’t got an opinion on the whole thing and couldn’t really give two hoots who plays who. But I’m sure there are many of you Twilight fans who feel very strongly in favor of one of the actors. Let us know if you’d be happy with Copon and Barnes appearing in New Moon.

I’ve never read these books either, I need a little bit more reality and gore to my vampires like Anne Rice’s novels which I do read but coming from a female perspective there is something very addictive about the style and approach of the Twilight Film. To me , I hate films that change the cast but keep the characters like Queen of the Damned for example(Townsend=Cruise) but Lautner is 16 years old there trying to replace him with someone who’s almost 30.Sad part is, put a wig on Campon most preteens may not even notice the difference.

They can’t change it from Lautner, and yes I am one of the many obsessive Twilight Fans. My reason being; Thousand’s have re-read ‘New Moon’ after seeing Twilight in order to picture Lautner as Jacob, and personally I think he is perfect. His smile especially.

    :(

Also I don’t think Barnes is old to play Aro. Especially since they refer to them as the ‘Ancients’.

I have plenty of things to say to this article. If you had taken the time to do your research on the Twilight Saga you would have realized its more than teenage girls who are in love with the series. Its more than some girl having a crush on a vampire. It has become a classic love story, and it could do with more credit on the suject. As for the charaters, Ben Barnes will be perfect for Aro. But for Jacob, Taylor is the only choice. Micheal Copon is to old for the part and trust me everyone will notice, because in New Moon they can’t just put a wig on Copon you’ll see why if you actually read it. Most preteens would notice regardless anyways.

Well, Taylor Lautner IS going to play Jacob in New Moon (: so there’s really nothing to worry about(: (btw. I am one of those obsessive “twilighters” too!:D) And for those who have read the books, can any of you picture Ben Barnes as Aro, the extremly-evil-but-freindly-on-the-outside-bloodthirsty-vampire? :P well, I for sure can’t…
