The Terminator’s ‘I’ll Be Back’ Voted Most Commonly Used Film Phrase
A survey by myfilms.com has concluded that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic “I’ll be back.” line from ‘The Terminator’ is the most common film line used in everyday conversation.
The question asked to reveal the top ten film catchphrases was “Which famous phrase do you borrow from films to use in everyday conversation?” 2000 people were asked and the top ten are all as I would have expected them to be.
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn“, Rhett Butler’s closing line in ‘Gone With The Wind’ came second, with “Beam me up, Scotty” from ‘Star Trek’ a close third, even though it’s a line that was never actually uttered in any of the hundreds of television episodes or film spin offs.
A spokesman for the site said:
“Our research shows the huge influence films have over people, from life-changing experiences to the way we speak.”
The full top ten film catchphrases are:
1. “I’ll be back.” from the ‘The Terminator’
2. “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” from ‘Gone With The Wind’
3. “Beam me up, Scotty.” from ‘Star Trek’
4. “May the force be with you.” from ‘Star Wars’
5. “Life is like a box of chocolates.” from ‘Forrest Gump’
6. “You talking to me?” from ‘Taxi Driver’
7. “Show me the money.” from ‘Jerry Maguire’
8. “Do you feel lucky, punk?” from ‘Dirty Harry’
9. “Here’s looking at you, kid.” from ‘Casablanca’
10. “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.” from ‘Dirty Dancing’

AFI did a top 100 list a year or two ago though, and “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” was number 1? I know some time has passed, but I’d trust their survey more.
Although I do hear that Arnold quote way more than any of the others on the top 10.

What the hell? Obviously number 1 should be “Say hello to my little friend.”

Are you joking? I’ll be back is a common turn of phrase, it is erroneous that it was in the film.
I mean, if in the sixteenth installment of spiderman MJ says “Nice shoes” at some high point in the scene, will be be looking ten years from now at that as a commonly used movie phrase?
Seriously. Some standards of common deviation might be a good idea. Nothing that my grandmother who hasn’t watched a movie since the war would understand, I think, is a good start.

Deus, you’re a dimwit. ‘It is erroneous that it was in the film.’ Do you even know what erroneous means?
