The Rock, Jessica Biel and Scott To Provide Voices For ‘Planet 51′

Oh goodie, there’s another animated feature film being made. I must go and see that when it comes out, as all the other 50 million animated features which have gone before just weren’t quite enough to sate my appetite for hearing famous actors provide the voices for small, delicately drawn screen characters. Yawn.
This time, the movie is called Planet 51, and the actors providing the voices include Dwayne Johnson (known as The Rock before he grew up and got a life), Jessica Biel, Seann William Scott, and Juston Long.
I dont know if this announcement of the casting is meant to get me all excited by the prospect of the film or something, but for some reason it doesn’t. I’m not keen on Dwayne, so that’s a negative for me, and I’d rather actually SEE Jessica Biel and Seann William Scott on screen personally.
Regardless of my distaste for the movie, it is a big budget project, with New Line Cinema’s first 3D CG animated feature having $60 million thrown at it, so they must be expecting good things.
According to Yahoo! News:
“The film revolves around a group of residents on the eponymous planet who fear an alien invasion. Johnson will play astronaut Capt. Charles “Chuck” Baker, who arrives from Earth and confirms their worst fears. He’s forced to avoid capture so he can find his spaceship and return home.”
“Biel will voice the film’s female protagonist and the love interest of a local, voiced by Justin Long, who befriends Chuck. Seann William Scott will play another local.”
Thrilling stuff. Hmm, yeah.
The film has been written by Joe Stillman (Shrek, Shrek 2), with Jorge Blanco directing and is set for a July 24th 2009 release. I can’t wait. No, really, I can’t.
