Here's the new RoboCop look.
Over the weekend, ComingSoon posted set photos for the remake of “RoboCop,” the 1987 action/sci-fi classic, that gave us a first glimpse of the RoboCop suit. In the film, Detroit Cop Alex Murphy is grievously wounded in a shootout, but gets a new lease on life when OmniCorp uses its technology to rebuild him into a half-man/half-robot supercop.
Since the project was announced, there’s been a lot of curiosity about how twenty-five years of technology would change the look of the RoboCop suit. Well, there’s Joel Kinnamanin the picture above, showing off the new RoboCop suit. Here’s another one.

Joel Kinnaman looks anxious to get to his trailer.
Here’s a picture of Peter Weller as Murphy in the 1987 version.

Old school RoboCop.
So what do we think of the new one? Here are some thoughts from me:
- The new one looks like it allows the wearer to move in a smoother, less clunky way.
- That said, it still looks pretty hot and uncomfortable.
- I kind of miss the old metallic “robot” looking material of the old one.
- The new one looks kind of like a Batman suit.
- Or a scuba diver suit.
Reaction to the new suit so far seems pretty mixed, but I can’t judge the quality of the movie just on that one piece (though it is a pretty important piece, I admit). We’ll find out how it all comes together August 9, 2013.
“RoboCop” is being directed by Jose Padilha. The rest of the cast includes Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
