The Queens: Hathaway and Bonham Carter Join Alice Cast

Helena Bonham Carter, cooler than so many of us (especially me).

In what should be a surprise to no one, The Hollywood Reporter announces today that Helena Bonham Carter has joined the cast of Tim Burton’s live action/performance capture version of Alice in Wonderland. Less unsurprising, but hardly improbable, is the additional news that Anne Hathaway is now also in.

Mia Wasikowska stars as Alice and Johnny Depp, of course, will drop in to play the Mad Hatter. Hathaway is slated to play the kind but ineffectual White Queen; Bonham Carter is set for the volatile Red Queen who tends to solve all problems by shouting “Off with their heads!” Again, these are characters who actually appear in Through the Looking Glass, not Alice In Wonderland, but theater and film adaptations have always tended to draw on characters and episodes from both.

Well, there’s not much more left to say here, is there? Did anyone have any doubt that Helena Bonham Carter was going to be in this? The only other part you could have put her in would be the the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland, but she may not even be included in Burton’s version. Hathaway should be fine, I guess. No complaints there.
