The Pleasure of His Company: Sarandon, Christie, Jenkins Join Redford Film

Susan Sarandon, looking very respectable.

Oh, how long it has been since we have heard news about “The Company You Keep,” the adaptation of Neil Gordon’s novel that stars Robert Redford, who will also direct. Wait, never mind–it was actually just yesterday that we heard Brit Marling was in talks for the lead female role. Now today Deadline has brought us word that Richard Jenkins, Julie Christie and Susan Sarandon have also joined the cast, which also includes Shia LaBeouf and Nick Nolte.

The book is about a 1960s radical and Weather Underground member wanted by the FBI who finds the new identity and respectable life he’s built shattered when a persistent young reporter starts snooping around, forcing him to go on the run. It’s just like “Les Miz,” isn’t it? Redford, of course, plays the lead, and LaBeouf plays the pesky reporter. Sarandon and Christie will play Redford’s radical cohorts, and Jenkins will play the college professor who “is a link” to the radicals in hiding.

Great casting–they all seem like former 1960s student protesters all grown up, don’t they? Especially Jenkins–he really looks like every older guy I’ve known who has some wild ’60s past. They’ll start filming in Vancouver next month. Ahh, autumn in Canada….
