I’m not sure whether The Inbetweeners has made it out of the U.K. to be shown in other countries yet. If not then everyone apart from British television viewers are missing out on what is one of the funniest sitcoms I’ve seen in a long time. And now there may be a movie on the way.
The Inbetweeners follows a group of four youngsters as they try change from kids into adults. The name applies not only to this change but also to the fact that these four are outsiders, not quite fitting in to any one group. They’re not even similar to each other but their friendship seems to work regardless.
We’ve already had two series of the show, with a third confirmed for next year. But now comes news of a movie version of The Inbetweeners as well.
Simon Bird and Neil Harrison spoke to Digital Spy about the possibility at the TV Quick & TV Choice Awards recently:
“I don’t know – we’re not allowed to say. It’s not up to us. I mean, that’s obviously a yes!”
“There are loads of rumors going around about different things, but whether anything actually happens is a whole other story. We have loads of fun doing a series, so I think a film would be just as much fun.”
“I don’t think we can give anything away. But there has been talk about [a film]! I’d like to see Will finally pop his cherry! Just more of the same, I think. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
It’s now been confirmed that a movie is definitely on the way, with the writing duo behind the show, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, revealing that Film4 has commissioned a script. The movie may see the foursome go on a lads holiday abroad, which sounds good to me.
No news yet on when we may actually get to see The Inbetweeners film but suffice to say I personally cannot wait for it.
