The Goonies is an absolute classic movie. I still watch it regularly, and have been since it was first released when I just 8-years-old.
I can’t quite believe it’s been 25 years since the movie was first released. It certainly doesn’t feel like it was that long ago. But this year does indeed mark the 25th anniversary of The Goonies. And Warner Bros. is marking the occasion in a way which is bound to please fans.
According to Yahoo!, this November will see The Goonies re-released, both on Blu-ray and in an ‘Ultimate Collector’s Edition’ which comes complete with a board game, a souvenir magazine, a making-of documentary, and deleted scenes.
The chances of there being a sequel, the mythical Goonies 2 which has been rumored for years but has never actually shown up, is virtually nil at this stage. So it’s best just to enjoy the original for what it is. And it’ll be great to see it on Blu-ray with loads of extras thrown in for good measure.
I haven’t bought many Blu-ray movies as of yet, because I’m enjoying how cheap DVDs have become as a result. And upscaled they look good enough. But this is one movie I’d love to watch in HD.
