‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ Trailer Goes Live - Keanu Reeves As Klaatu

‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ Trailer

I’ve been eagerly waiting for my first glimpse at The Day The Earth Stood Still ever since I learnt that the film was being remade, and Keanu Reeves was going to be starring. Reeves is a brilliant actor, but no necessarily the person I would have chosen for the role of Klaatu, an alien who comes to earth to warn humankind of an impending disaster.

The first trailer for the film is now live online, and having watched it through a few times, I don’t think I should have worried about a possible miscasting. In fact, Keanu looks completely right for the role, at least on the evidence of this 2 minute clip. Check it out below.

The scenes of Keanu as Klaatu sitting in an interrogation room look especially intriguing, with Reeves doing his best impression of an uncooperative alien. The last shot is also a strange one as it shows Gort, Klaatu’s faithful robot companion, as he seems to be demonstrating or otherwise using his laser beam. MTV Movies takes a closer look at the trailer.

While the original film dealt with the cold war, and the themes of self-destruction surrounding that period of our history, the new one looks at the environmental disaster that inches closer every single day. There are also reportedly going to be references to the wars currently waging around the globe.

This trailer makes me more excited for the film for its December release. It’s not going to be a thrill-a-minute spectacular by any means, but with a strong storyline, and what looks like being some excellent acting, this could turn out to be a huge box-office success.
