‘The Dark Knight’ Described As “Most Adult Comic Book Film Ever Made”

The new Batman film, The Dark Knight, is still a few weeks away for us mere mortals, but there are pre-release screenings going on for selected movie critics in the US right now, and some are emerging to give their early views on the film. And it seems the vast majority are very pleased with what they have seen.
Garth Franklin at Dark Horizons is one of the lucky reviewers to get an early taster, and while he can’t yet publish a full review, he has given his first impressions. He thinks that the hype is completely justified, and that the film “is a masterpiece”.
Kevin Smith, another lucky pre-screening attendee claims on his blog that “it’s the ‘Godfather II’ of comic book films and three times more earnest than ‘Batman Begins’. Easily the most adult comic book film ever made.” Which I’m sure you’ll agree is quite a statement.
Some reviewers are complaining that the film is slightly too long, but if it’s as good as the rest are saying, I don’t think I’ll mind getting a numb bum after spending a couple of hours in the cinema.
In other news in the run-up to the film’s release, Gary Oldman and director Chris Nolan spoke to MovieWeb about the possibility of a third film in the series being made. Oldman maybe gave an interesting spoiler away by claiming that The Riddler could be set to follow in The Joker’s footsteps in the last of the possible trilogy. As long as they don’t invite Jim Carrey to play him again, then that’s fine by me.
