The Beatles In ‘Yellow Submarine Remake’?

Yellow Submarine

The classic animated film, Yellow Submarine, based on the music of The Beatles, is about to be remade into a performance-capture 3-D digital production similar in style to The Polar Express, Beowulf, and A Christmas Carol.

In the original, The Beatles only had bit parts, appearing at the end in a live-action sequence. Voice actors played the parts of John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. But it could potentially be different this time around.

Robert Zemeckis, who is behind the remake, certainly wants the two surviving Beatles to play a part. But whether they’ll be interested isn’t yet known, with Zemeckis telling Rolling Stone magazine:

“We haven’t gotten the word yet on the two surviving Beatles, whether they’re interested in doing it or not.”

I really hope McCartney and Starr do decide to get involved as it’ll give the project more authority than it will have otherwise. And the publicity generated as a result of their names being attached to it wouldn’t hurt either.

The Yellow Submarine remake is due out in 2012 to coincide with the London Olympics.
