‘Terminator’ Rights Up For Grabs

Terminator

The Terminator series has had a somewhat tumultuous life, with four movies having been released, some critically acclaimed, some critically panned. And the rights to the series have also changed several times.

The last of these hand changes saw the rights to the Terminator series bought by Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek under the halcyon Holding Group umbrella. but with that company now facing bankruptcy, the Terminator rights could be sold yet again.

According to The L.A. Times, Halcyon’s most valuable asset is the Terminator series, and financial advisory firm FTI Capital Advisors is currently sounding out movies studios and independent film companies to see if they’d be interested in acquiring the rights.

The price being quoted is around $60 million, which would seem relatively cheap, but Halcyon only paid $25 million in 2007 so maybe it isn’t such a bargain. Plus there’s the fact that due to Terminator: Salvation not doing as well as expected the series may have to be put on hold for a few years.

Sony Pictures, which distributed the last film overseas, is thought to be one of the interested parties.
