Taylor Lautner is currently best known for playing Jacob Black, the boy come werewolf who is Edward Cullen’s love rival for Bella Swan’s attentions in the Twilight movies (and books). He’s the kid who had to beef up massively in order to keep his role for New Moon.
However, Lautner could soon be breaking out of the Twilight box in order to play Max Steel. The L.A. Times reports that he’s currently the front-runner for a role which could see him add male teenagers and comic book geeks to his line-up of fans and admirers.
Apart from Twilight, Lautner has just wrapped on Valentine’s Day. Steel is a fairly recent addition to the comic book and action figure scene, only having been introduced in 1999. The character is an extreme sports addict whose life changes after he’s infected (for want of a better word) with nanobots.
This is merely a rumor at this stage, and should thus be treated with a large pinch of salt and a healthy dose of skepticism. It looks like the story could have emerged from the desire of Lautner’s management team and a break in his schedule rather than any official rumblings from Paramount.
