Superbad’s McLovin Set To Star In ‘Kick-Ass’

Matthew Vaughn, director of Layer Cake and Stardust doesn’t take no for an answer. So when every single Hollywood studio passed on his adaptation of Kick-Ass, he decided to go ahead and make it anyway. He has raised $30 million and is now going it alone, making the movie as an independent production.

The reason none of the studios wanted to touch the project was because the comic book it is based on is ultra-violent. When you add in that the ones committing the violence are young kids, you have a bunch of Hollywood studio execs running scared.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, key cast members are being recruited, with Chloe Moretz having already signed up to a ferocious 11-year-old vigilante who carries a ninja sword. Even better than that is the news that Christopher Mintz-Plasse, McLovin from Superbad is also in negotiations. He would play a character called The Red Mist.

No news yet on the lead though, with the main character Dave Lizewski uncast at the moment. Lizewski is a high-school dweeb who reinvents himself as a superhero by the name of Kick-Ass. Unfortunately, his lack of co-ordination and skill make being a crime fighter a hazardous pastime.

I love the sound of this film, and really hope it gets made and is a box office success. Hollywood studios seem unwilling to take any risks these days, although Tropic Thunder proves me wrong I guess. I just hope Vaughn has the opportunity to shove all the negative responses he received back down the execs throats.
