Far be it from me to deny the possibility that books on relationships work, because they may well do, but I can’t help thinking that if you need a book to tell you what you’re doing wrong, then you may have bigger problems than even you can imagine.
However, many people seem to disagree with me, which is why the book version of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus sold 50 million copies worldwide. And why Summit Entertainment thinks it can turn this book into a successful movie.
According to Variety, Summit has acquired the movie and TV rights to the book series, which began in 1992 and which has spawned more than a dozen titles.
Eric Feig, Summit’s president of production, bleated:
“Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is not just the title of a book, or what we know will become an amazing film and TV franchise – it is a pop cultural mainstay and comically, sadly, romantically, all too often still true these many years after first being published.”
What’s the betting this will be a rom-com? One that bears little if any resemblance to the book, and instead relies solely on the familiar-sounding title to entice audiences in?
