“Suicide Squad” on Mission for Warner Brothers

Suicide Squad

These eight people…or some more famous people…

According to Variety, Warner Brothers is bringing the DC Comics property “Suicide Squad” to the big screen. Dan Lin, who produced “Sherlock Holmes” “Terminator Salvation, and about 10,000 other things this year, will produce this one as well. Justin Marks is writing the screenplay; his other credits include “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” “Hack/Slash,” and “Street Fighter.”

“Suicide Squad” deals with a group of incarcerated supervillains, who are, “recruited by the government to accomplish a task deemed too dangerous for superheroes. The historically independent operators must bury their own interpersonal conflicts and agendas to form a cohesive unit to take on a singular task.”

The concept first debuted in 1959, and since then has featured multiple characters to take on different missions. Some of the better known names who’ve shown up, according to Wikipedia (yes, I looked it up), are Black Adam, Poison Ivy, and Vixen (okay, familiar to me; I’m not an expert).

So who would you like to see in the movie, then? Considering how flexible the cast has been, you could probably go with just about anyone from the DC universe. And since WB is going to want some recognizable names in there, you can bet some better known characters who may not have ever been in the comics will be shoehorned in as well. Let’s be honest, WB is more interested in the general public than the aficionados.
