Still Dazed & Confused? McConaughey Talks Sequel

Really, has Matthew McConaughey changed that much?
Richard Linklater’s 1993 film “Dazed and Confused,” about a group of high school students on the verge of summer in 1976 is a little gem that launched the director’s career. It also had a cast that included Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, theater regular Anthony Rapp, Cole Hauser, and even Renee Zellweger in a tiny role.
But the movie probably did the most for Matthew McConaughey, whose role in the film’s stoner milieu now seems not so much acting as a reflection of real life. Since then, McConaughey has managed to parly his dumb blonde, hard-bodied looks into a reasonably successful career. Now, out promoting his new film “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” McConaughey spoke to the MTV Movies Blog about “Dazed and Confused’s” sequel potential. Mr. McC says:
“That’s a very precious subject, that movie…We made such a gem… I’ve had loose discussions about what would be the next [in]carnation of a ‘Dazed and Confused’… [Linklater is] not going to do it unless it’s done the right way. It’s a good idea, but he’s gotta pick the right way to do it.
“You’ve gotta bring back certain cast members. I’d love to see what they’re all doing today. I’d love to see what they’re all doing ten years later. It came out in what, 92? I’d love to say it’s 1992…[his character] David Wooderson may have a few kids. Running a community radio station. I don’t know.”
How about happy go lucky movie star? You know, on one hand, I’m usually irritated at Matthew McConaughey because he’s always getting cast and I just don’t feel he’s particularly talented and personally, I don’t even like his looks. But today I feel some admiration for him–you’ve got to hand it to the guy for making a lot out of so little. So today I salute you, Mr. McConaughey. You’ve hung around longer than anyone should have expected, and your agent and manager deserve bonuses of some sort.
