Stephen Chow (pictured), he of ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ and ‘Shaolin Soccer’ fame is set to direct the upcoming live action movie version of ‘Dragonball’.
For those of you who have spent the last few years living under a rock, ‘Dragonball’ is an ass kicking Japanese manga (known in the west as ‘Dragonball Z’), which has gained massive worldwide fame, and spawned everything from games to merchandise. And now a Hollywood movie.
As well as Chow producing, this live animé adaptation will have ‘Final Destination’ man James Wong as director, and will boast Justin Chatwin as the hero and James Marsters as the villain.
The Hollywood Reporter explain the basic plot of the series as:
“The story follows an adult humanoid alien named Goku, who discovers that he was sent to Earth to blend in and destroy our population but instead elects to protect it from an oncoming alien onslaught bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.”
The casting looks pretty good so far, and being a big fan of the ‘Final Destination’ films, I like the idea of Wong as director. Chow should also help bring a distinct feel to the film.
My only concern is the already set release date. Even though filming has yet to begin, it’s already been set as August 15th 2008, which to my mind sounds like a rush job. I truly hope that’s not the case.

For that stupid mistake dragonball is not dragonball z, dragonball is the first part of a very long japanese manga. there is dragonball (young goku), dragonball z(middle age goku) and dragonball GT (older goku but turned bk into a kid). cant blaim u for the mistake but if u want to write something that is suppose to be based of fact, get your sources right.
Stephen Chow is in fact no way involved with this, okay
