Chewbacca's the hairy one.
No, this isn’t the backstory of Chewbacca the Star Wars character being brought to the big screen as part of the ongoing effort to drain the property of every last bit of value.
Actually, “Chewie” is a look a the making of “Star Wars” as seen through the eyes of Peter Mayhew, the giant actor who was still working at a hospital while trying to make it in movies. The screenplay, written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux was on the 2011 Black List of best unproduced screenplays. In a bit of cosmic justice, Heat Vision says that Kyle Newman, the director of “Fanboys,” the movie about a group of teens trying to break into Skywalker Ranch, is developing the film and will direct.
It’s an interesting idea, and kind of a nice tribute to Mayhew, who never really got to share in teh glory of the films’ success and cultural impact. Sure, if you’re a hardcore fan who attended conventions, then you might know Mayhew. But most people wouldn’t have been able to pic him out of a crowd except to note how tall he was.
The fun part here will be casting. Well, finding someone for the 7′ 3″ Mayhew might not be so fun. But who will play the young Lucas? The young Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher? I mean, I assume they’re in there, even just a little bit. We’ll see–
