I’m a huge fan of Star Wars, even the slightly disappointing Prequel Trilogy. So any new release related to the Star Wars universe fills me with joy, and the news all six movies are going to be released on the Blu-ray format positively makes my year.
This has been on the cards for a long time now. After all, when has George Lucas ever missed an opportunity to make a new bundle of money out of the series he created 30 years ago?
However, this is the first time a Blu-ray re-release has been confirmed, with Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet telling IGN:
“We have been at work for a couple of years working on – I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff – but a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures.”
More extra material? But I thought that had already all been found and packaged to fans on the various DVD releases over the years. I guess I must have been mistaken. Surely Lucasfilm didn’t hold anything back so as to squeeze even more money out of Star Wars fans further on down the line?!?
A release date of October 2011 is reportedly being targeted, and I’m guessing this will be a huge seller. And I’ll be one of the fans contributing to Lucas’ bank balance, even though I’ve only just bought the trilogies on DVD. Suckers, the lot of us.

They’ve been working a couple years on another repackaging? Seriously fuck this shit, they need to get to work on new movies.
