Oh yeah, this one.
Lucasfilm has announced that “Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones” and “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith” will be released theatrically in 3D back-to-back on September 20, 2013 and October 11, 2013, respectively. “Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace” was released in 3D last February, earningĀ $43.5 million domestically and $59.3 million internationally for a worldwide total of $102.7 million.
Bad news first: no one likes or cares about these movies, though I’m sure completists and 3D fans will show up. Good news: this means that rather than wait until perhaps 2015 for the first of the good “Star Wars” movies, the 1977 original “Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope” may be here in 2014, followed soon after by the greatest of them, “The Empire Strikes Back.” Lucasfilm will never admit that the second cycle of films (#s 1, 2, 3) aren’t as loved as the originals, but their decision to knock off the second and third together shows that they know they’re not important and they just want to move on to the good ones–which should make a lot of money.
