Star Trek Chatter: JJ Abrams Talks New Movie, Both Spocks

Spock

Greetings from Spock.

ComingSoon has an interview with JJ Abrams about the upcoming Star Trek movie. It’s pretty short, but it’s been a while since we’ve had any news about this one, so if you’re a fan, check it out. Here’s one snip from the Q&A:

CS: What can you say about about working with Leonard Nimoy?
Abrams:
It was really just a dream experience, working with him. He is everything you want him to be. He’s funny and incredibly thoughtful and was surprisingly open and receptive to direction. He’s just got an amazing wife and family and working with him was literally… Like the other day we were doing some ADR and he was there and because we weren’t shooting anymore I was standing there and I just looked at him while he was doing his thing. I wanted to burn it into my head. It was so great to get to work with that guy. He’s just an amazing man and is terrific in the movie.

As I’m sure you know, Zachary Quinto is playing the young Spock in the movie. In a related note, TrekMovie has this quote from Abrams about Quinto:

Zachary brought a gravity and an incredible sense of humor, which is a wonderful combination because the Spock character is deceivingly complicated. And the revelation for me in watching the movie was that he’s extraordinary. He was doing things I didn’t even realize while we were shooting. These amazing things that sort of track the story.

JJ Abrams, fan of all things Spock.

Star Trek is set to open in May 2009. After a couple of sluggish tries with the last few movies, this one was due for a major refresher, and hopefully this is it.
