Chris Hemsworth may fight robots.
Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth has emerged as the top contender for the lead in “Robopocalypse,” Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novel. According to Deadline this is “one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood.”
Drew Goddard wrote the script “about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising.” With that in mind, I would guess that the role is not coveted because it’s an Oscar bait role, but because it could launch an actor into Will Smith, summer popcorn movie territory; it also might grab some attention that this is the first blockbuster Spielberg has directed in a while.
Hemsworth’s movies have made a lot of money this year. “The Avengers” has made a kazillion dollars and “Snow White and the Huntsman” has earned almost $400 million worldwide. He’s got “Thor 2″ in the works; starring in a big Spielberg movie would put him firmly on the A list.
