Spielberg Delays ‘Chicago 7′
Just last month, I wrote an article detailing the plot details, and actors being lined up for Chicago 7, the new Steven Spielberg movie about the group of protesters from the 1968 Democratic National Convention. It seems the movie has now been delayed, and possibly even cancelled due to fears of an actors strike, and the script reported to need more work done to it.
Shooting was set to begin at the end of March or early April, but now has no date, and according to Deadline Hollywood Daily, one won’t be set until the Screen Actors Guild and AMPTP agree on a deal.
There are reports that the film could even now be cancelled but sources say Spielberg is still just as keen as ever to make the picture, and just wants everything to be perfect for the start of the shoot.
SAG’s contract expires at the end of June, and Spielberg knew he wouldn’t have been able to have filming wrapped by then, so rather than risk having a half finished movie on his plate, he has pushed production back entirely.
One big consequence of this decision is that the actors being lined up for roles in Chicago 7 may now not be available for any new start date.
Big names such as Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Smith, Kevin Spacey and Philip Seymour Hoffman, who were previously rumoured to be in the film may now have to be replaced by other actors, or possibly unknowns, which while good for them, could diversely affect the quality of the film.
