Spiderman 4 And 5 On The Cards? – Maguire And Raimi Sign Up

Spiderman 4 And 5 On The Cards?

Ever since production ended on Spider-Man 3 and it was released to mixed reviews, there has been intense speculation concerning the future of the series. Would there be any more films? Would Spidey himself Tobey Maguire be back for more? Would director Sam Raimi be persuaded to come back to helm more sequels?

All three of these questions can now apparently be answered as Deadline Hollywood claim that Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 are now in the works, and both Maguire and Raimi have signed on to be involved. Both films could even be filmed at the same time to keep costs down.

Maguire is thought to have been staling over signing up to lay the superhero again, and Sony Pictures were discussing possible replacements were he to have said no. The character of Mary Jane Watson will definitely be back but Kirsten Dunst has yet to sign on the dotted line to play her.

Work on Spider-Man 4 is going to begin next autumn with May 2011 recently slipping as the proposed release date. Villains are being discussed with The Lizard and Man-Wolf being mentioned.

I’m really pleased to hear this, although it should be noted that it’s currently just a rumour rather than an official announcement. Spider-Man 3 wasn’t the best film by any means but the character of Spider-Man is still by far my favourite comic book hero.

I’m glad to hear Raimi and Maguire are back, and really not too fussed if Dunst makes it or not. The villain chosen for the next Spider-Man film is going to be key as to whether it’s successful or not. Who would you like to see make an appearance?
