‘Spider-Man’ Sequels Could Be Filmed Back To Back

‘Spider-Man’ Sequels

We already knew Spider-Man 4 was being planned, as Sony hired James Vanderbilt to start writing the screenplay for it last year. But it seems that Spider-Man 4 and 5 are both now in the offing after Vanderbilt’s script proved large enough to cover two films.

Cinematical is reporting that the studios are now keen to film the next two sequels back to back although a deal to this end is still being negotiated so we should expect anything soon.. Their source said:

“His story arc has encompassed two films, making Spider-Man 5 shootable at the same time. The studio saw dollar signs and is in the process of reworking his deal to snatch up the story arc.”

Spider-Man 3 was a bit of a mess, which is why there’s been a bit of a break before talk of a new film began, but it now seems like it’s well and truly on. I wonder how Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst would feel about signing up for another two sequels at the same time though, as that’s a lot of work to commit to.

As much as I’d like to see the Spider-Man series continue, I’m not sure if the two films back-to-back strategy is the correct one. What if 4 sucks as bad as 3 does and gets panned by the critics?

  • I’ve been thinking the same thing - the quality of movies in this Spider-Man franchise has gotten worse and worse. I wouldn’t waste my time watching Spider-Man 3 ever again.

Running a further two sequels after taking a critical caning doesn’t seem too smart to me, unless they’ve got some seriously good stories for both.

  • Spider-Man 3 did not suck. It was the best Spider-Man movie. Nothing sucked about it.
