Spider-Man 4: Dunst In, Morbius Out

“No, marauding spiders, we have enough villains already!”
Producer Todd Black is out talking about his upcoming release “The Taking of Pelham 1,2, 3,” but the always enterprising (if not necessarily accurate) New York Post took the opportunity to ask him about one of his other projects–”Spider-Man 4.” The main news is as follows:
Yes, Kirsten Dunst is returning as Mary Jane, despite earlier rumors about her not being on board.
No, there will not be a MJ-Peter Parker wedding.
No, the villain will not be the oft-rumored Morbius. And good–there are way too many vampires out there now. Instead, here’s what Black had to say about choosing a villain:
“We’re just coming up with who the villain’s going to be now. We’ll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it’ll be a big part of New York.”
This leads to more speculation on the part of the Post, for example that the villain will be Kraven or the Kingpin. ComingSoon, though, notes that the latter is probably owned by Fox as part of the Daredevil franchise.
Personally, I don’t care that much who the villain is, as long as there is only one. Hopefully the Spider-Man team has learned from the multi-villain debacle of “Spider-Man” 3. Okay, that wasn’t that film’s only problem, but it was a huge one nonetheless. I’d like to see this franchise redeem itself, so I’m hoping for the best.
