Skater Girl: Page Possible for Barrymore Roller Derby Pic

Can Ellen Page fill Raquel Welch’s skates?
CinemaBlend is reporting that Ellen Page may be signing on to Whip It, the film that will mark Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut.
Whip It is based on Derby Girl, Shauna Cross’s roller derby novel (well, you knew it either had to be that or horse races in Kentucky). Cross, who wrote the screenplay, had this to say about the project:
“I just get chills thinking how no one has really captured the sport on film with multi-cameras and great editing. It’s gonna be sick, yo.”
Ouch! Way to disrespect Raquel Welch’s 1927 roller derby epic, Kansas City Bomber.
While Drew’s never directed a feature before, she’s certainly served the equivalent of a lifelong on-set internship. If she surrounds herself with the right people (and she should know who they are by now), it’s not unreasonable to expect that she could do a decent job. Page will probably be cute and spunky. Unless she gets lucky and gets cast as the raging bitch bad girl. Now that would be fun.
