Singer Seeks Reprise of “X-Men” Gig

The one Bryan Singer skipped.
Bryan Singer’s future looks to be more “X-Men Return” than “Superman Returns–Again.” Okay, ignore the fact that a sequel to Singer’s Man of Steel franchise reboot (yuck, that word) doesn’t appear to be in Warner Brother’s vision of the future; even if there was, Singer is making it very public that given the choice he would rather return to the X-Men characters, who he previously dumped after two films to go off and make “Superman Returns.” Brett Ratner ended up directing “X-Men III.”
The Hollywood Reporter says that Singer, speaking at a South Korean film festival, acknowledged his interest in returning to the franchise, and even said that he’s discussed the idea with Fox, the studio behind the “X-Men” movies. But does the studio want him? Or even a fourth “general” “X-Men” film–especially at the price tag a well-known director like Singer is likely to command? The reasonably successful “Wolverine” spinoff was directed by the lesser known Gavin Hood. Would Singer be open to directing any of the other X-Men spin-offs that are in motion (the X-Men Academy film, the Magneto prequel, Deadpool, another Wolverine film)? We’ll see; it might depend on how desperately (in terms of salary) he wants to return.
