Seyfried Teases ‘Mamma Mia 2’

Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia 2 is on. Apparently. The rumors of a sequel have been denied for months but Amanda Seyfried has now revealed that it’s at least being planned. Not only that but both Meryl Streep and her are up for starring in the sequel.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, Seyfried, who played Sophie in the original, didn’t seem willing to 100 percent confirm the sequel but did everything but say it’s definitely on its way. She said:

“I’ve been talking to some insiders and it’s not something that they haven’t been working on. I don’t actually know anything other than that. I know it’s still going to be Abba music, because what else would it be. Come on, I wouldn’t do Mamma Mia 2 without Benny and Bjorn.”

“I think we all had the best time and we all got along so well. It was like some days it felt like we were just people on vacation. I will do it. And I know Meryl’s game as well, so bring it on. It will be so cool.”

Based on Abba music? That was obvious, of course, but what Abba music? All the best songs were used in the original so there’s only two options: use the same songs again but in another setting; use less well-known songs.

I’d personally prefer the first option because the film is really only an excuse to sing Abba songs anyway. The problem with that is it should be a new setting with a new cast, but if Seyfried and Streep are due to be in it it’s likely to be a direct sequel. Which I can’t personally see working.#

I guess we’ll have to wait until Benny or Bjorn actually come out and confirm they’re working on Mamma Mia 2.
