Segal Signed on for Captain Marvel

Variety reports that Peter Segal and Michael Ewing, his partner in Callahan Filmworks, have signed a three year first look deal with Warner Brothers. The main event here is that Segal and Ewing are bringing with them a John August scripted version of Captain Marvel. Segal will direct. Ewing and August have been working on the script for a while as it bounced around the studios, most notably the now -defunct New Line.

(btw, I find it unconscionably weird that Captain ‘Marvel’ is a DC Comics property. Shouldn’t it be a Marvel product? Oh well.)

Segal directed Get Smart and will perform the same duties on the sequel. Segal and Ewing are working on Liam McBain: International Tennis Star and Proper English Geezer, written by Chip Hall. Segal is planning on directing. The film follows the rise, fall and ultimate redemption of a fictional British tennis star of the ’80s. This sounds like one of those things that looks really funny and good on paper, but in practice is more like it that stupid one sentence idea that you and your friends think is hilarious  for night but no one else agrees and by the next day, you don’t even think it’s that funny anymore. I hope I’m wrong, but just warning you. .
