Saoirse Ronan Will Star in a Non-Snow White Movie

Saoirse Ronan will manage the Order of the Seven.

This year, we not so eagerly look forward to the competition between Snow White movies “Mirror Mirror” and “Snow White and the Huntsman,” but look, it could have been worse–there almost was a third movie in the race.

Disney had planned “Snow and the Seven,” something described as a “revisionist” take (aren’t they all) on the fairy tale, with vague references to a “kung fu Snow White.” After the other two films got the jump, though, Disney pulled back and revamped it into something they are calling “The Order of the Seven.”  Deadline says that Saiorse Ronan is set to star in the non-Snow White role. Michael Gracey is directing.

Here’s how they’re describing it:

A centuries old and once revered Order of Warriors, now a jaded group of outlaws, must reclaim their destiny after the reemergence of an ancient evil empress. Ronan will play Olivia Sinclair, a British ex-pat of 19th Century Hong Kong who guides the warriors back to their noble roots.

Interesting–a salute to colonialism, courtesy of Disney!

Ronan is no stranger to action, as anyone who’s seen “Hanna” knows. She’ll be able to hold her own with a group of warriors, who Disney says will be played by “stars from China, Russia and Japan.”

Ronan is also set to star in Andrew Niccol’s adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host.”
