Samuel L. Jackson – Most Overexposed Actor Ever?

Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson is a great actor. There, I said it, got it out of the way, and shut all of those people about to abuse me in the comments section up. You see, this post isn’t about the quality of Jackson’s acting but the amount of movies he’s appearing in these days. I have to say, I’m becoming sick of seeing his face.

The first time I saw Samuel L. Jackson was in Pulp Fiction, a Tarantino great that has become one of the classics. And he was astoundingly good. Then there was Die Hard: With a Vengeance, a movie made much better by Jackson’s appearance. Jackie Brown, good, the Star Wars films, good, even Shaft and Unbreakable were okay.

But then it all went a bit wrong. Jackson seemed to start accepting any old roles. Coach Carter and Snakes On A Plane were crap. And then 2008 saw Jackson appear in Jumper, Iron Man, and The Spirit amongst others. And according to IMDB, 2009 is looking no better.

I’m glad Jackson is getting work but there is such a word as “No”. Has he taken a page out of Jim Carrey’s book and become a Yes Man or something? He seems to want to appear in every film released, be it a big or small part. And he must be raking in the cash from all these bit parts.

And then to top it all, I turn on the TV only to see him advertising Broadband Internet! The problem is that this overexposure is starting to annoy me to the point that I’ll avoid films with Jackson in. And I’ll also start hating him as an actor, which is a shame because he’s absolute class when he puts his mind to it.
