Rumor Alert! Will Ms. Marvel Be in “The Avengers 2?”

By Kirsten Anderson Movie News

Will Ms. Marvel, who appears to have her boobs on wrong, be in the next Avengers?

This is a rumor. There are no facts backing it up. It is from a questionable source. I’m writing about it, though, because it does raise an interesting idea.

The UK’s Daily Mail had this item:

British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood.

Emily, 29, below, star of The  Young Victoria, and Ruth, 30, from TV’s Luther, are both  hotly tipped to play superhero Ms Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble, one of the biggest box office hits of all time.

So again, let’s take into consideration the fact that this is a tabloid with a reputation for almost completely fabricating items–really, the only thing we know for sure in here is that Blunt and Wilson are British actresses. We also know that Joss Whedon signed on for the sequel about ten minutes ago so I doubt there’s much of an outline of a story, let alone any kind of script to use at an audition. There’s never been any hint of an idea from any credible source that they’re adding to the “Avengers.” I’m not saying it can’t or won’t happen, just that reliable people aren’t talking about this.

But should they? Do you want additional Avengers in the second movie? At some point the size of a group in a movie gets unwieldy for the writer, director, and audience–one or two characters inevitably get left out a bit. They’re not fully developed and don’t participate much in the story; I mean, even in
“The Avengers,” Hawkeye didn’t get a lot to do. So I’d hesitate before adding many more characters, if any.

If they do feel they’re up to the challenge, though, is Ms. Marvel the one that you want? She’s a character who dates back to the ’70s (hence the “Ms.” name) and has, as is typical of comic book characters, gone through a lot. I know many people feel that if the Avengers add anyone, it should be Wasp and/or Ant-Man, but I think Marvel is saving them for their own movie. So Ms. Marvel, yes or no…? We’ll see.
