Rourke Uninterested in Return to Sin City?

After playing a washed-up wrestler, Mickey Rourke is one step away from playing a washed-up member of a ’80s hair band.
A few years ago, Mickey Rourke would probably have been considered washed-up by most people in Hollywood. His turn in Sin City won him some positive attention, but he still wasn’t really on people’s radar. Now, though, he’s winning raves for his starring role in Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. Oscar talk is in the air for the talented Mr. Rourke.
Rourke’s long been expected to return to Sin City, but when ComingSoon talked to him at the press junket for The Wrestler, he made it clear that that’s not a real interest of his anymore. Rourke said:
“No, I’m not interested in that right now. That’s not a reality right now. It’s pissing in the wind. There’s different factions going different directions there. I don’t know. That’s three hours of make up and I’m claustrophobic, so I’m going to have to work something out.”
Meanwhile, Rourke is working on 13, an English language remake of the French film 13 Tzameti. He’s enthusiastic about that project, noting he’s playing a new character that wasn’t in the original.
So what do you think? Is Rourke really freaked by the makeup issues that come with Sin City? Or is he just suddenly getting a wider variety of projects to choose from in the wake of The Wrestler? Probably a bit of both.
Mickey Rourke news. Who’d a thunk it.
