Rose McGowan To Star In ‘Red Sonja’ Remake

I’m not much of a comic-book fan. Oh I love the big name superhero strips for characters such as Superman, Spider-Man and Batman, but beyond that I’m a bit green around the gills in terms of knowledge. Which means the fact that Red Sonja started out as a comic book character has taken me completely by surprise.
My only knowledge of Red Sonja is from the terrible 1980s film of the same name starring Brigitte Neilsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It’s only now that there is talk of a remake that I learn of the story’s true origin.
The original Red Sonja comic book tells the story of a girl who becomes the most feared woman warrior of all time by seeking vengeance on the people who destroyed her family.
The new version of the movie will not be a remake of the 1985 failure, but a new attempt at turning what could potentially be a great comic book movie in to the success that it deserves. According to Variety, Nu Image/Millennium are set to make the film, with the project getting under way in October.
The movie already has a star in Rose McGowan who looks like being an excellent choice for the role. It also has a director in the form of Douglas Aarniokoski. The studio is said to be trying to build the character in to a brand in a similar way as they did for Conan, Hercules and The Three Musketeers.
