Rose Byrne In Talks For “Annie”

Rose Byrne may be nice to orphans in "Annie."

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Rose Byrne is in talks to take on one of the last roles to be cast in “Annie,” the new screen version of the long-running Broadway hit. Quvenzhane Wallis plays the title role in the “updated version” that Will Gluck is going to direct. Jay Z and Will Smith are producing.

Byrne would play Grace, the no-nonsense, efficient assistant to the original comics’ Daddy Warbucks character, renamed Benjamin Stacks and played by Jamie Foxx in this movie. They’re the ones who help out plucky but beleaguered orphan Annie. Cameron Diaz plays the other major adult role, mean orphanage headmistress Miss Hannigan.

Byrne was last seen in the thankless “comedy” “The Internship.” She’ll be seen later this year in “Insidious: Chapter 2″ and also has finished “Townies” and “The Turning.” She’s currently working on “This Is Where I Leave You.”

“Annie” is set for a Christmas 2014 release.
