‘Romancing The Stone’ Remake On Way - But Why… Please Tell Me!!!

Woah, major deja vu occurrence. I’m sure I’ve spent the last few weeks writing this exact same article on Snarkerati. Yes, yes, I have. Basically, Hollywood has run out of ideas and so is raiding the archives for old movies (if the 1980s can be considered the olden days) to remake.
This time it’s Romancing The Stone being eyed for a rehash, following in the footsteps of remakes such as Robocop, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Karate Kid, Weird Science, the newly announced Arthur, and a lot more besides. When will the madness end?
Romancing The Stone was originally released in 1984 and starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in a film that basically ripped off Indiana Jones. I must admit to actually liking the film at the time, but then I was only seven at the time and didn’t know any better. But a remake? Now? Why?
If you want to see Romancing The Stone then rent or buy the DVD. There’s no need to remake the damn thing. It’s not like it’s a classic held up as a great example of the genre even to this day. It was OK, but that’s about it. Why not just invent a new story that rips off Indiana Jones rather than remake an old story that did exactly that?

I think “The Librarian” movies are the cheap Indiana Jones rip offs of our time and them - like Romancing the Stone - are pretty cool, in a non serious silly way. They’re not meant to be Casablanca or Gone with the Wind. They’re brain candy.
A remake of Romancing the Stone seems silly, given the original still holds up well today as a fun adventure romp.

Romancing the Stone was written before Indiana Jones. Totally not a ripoff.
