Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks are taking on the lead roles in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Jason Mewes, not surprisingly, is also in the cast.
Here’s what Variety had to say about the film: “Story revolves around two lifelong platonic friends who are deep in debt and enlist the help of their friends to make a porn pic for some quick cash. But Zack and Miri realize that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.”
Rogen’s career is hotter than hot, so Smith must be hoping that he’ll bring a little of that Judd Apatow magic to the film–and Smith could use that, to be honest. Let’s just say that the 21st century hasn’t been as good for Smith as the 20th.
Banks has always stood out in small roles (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Seabiscuit, the Spider-Man movies) and is a likable choice for this part. For men in the audience, she’s good looking, and for women, she seems like she’d be your fun friend who never causes any drama and doesn’t freak when you spill wine all over her carpet.
Being from Kevin Smith, audiences probably should expect lots of swearing, verbally acrobatic debates, and the occasional intense monologue. The subject matter also implies everyone’s dream–lots of skin from Seth Rogen.
Smith wants you to know, though, that he’s not planning on just spewing porn movie jokes. He told USA Today: “Everything I’ve done, on the surface, seems off-putting to some audience or other, but if you sit down and watch the flicks, you’ll see they’re sweet-natured and not angry or hateful or provocative for the sake of being provocative”
Then again, Jersey Girl was just off-putting.
Smith has been doing well since Clerks 1…i don’t know what that wry comment meant, but it’s not based on reality.
Unless you mean the Jay and Silent Bob Secret Stash store closing down in Brentwood,Ca, then maybe you have a good point.
