Robert Downey Jr. Joins Jon Favreau’s “Chef”

Robert Downey Jr. will work with Jon Favreau in a non-Marvel venture.

Happy Hogan and Tony Stark are reuniting. Deadline reports that Robert Downey Jr. has joined Jon Favreau’s next project, “Chef.” Favreau stars, wrote the script, and will direct. Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Bobby Cannavale are in the cast.

“Chef” is supposed to be about “a man who loses his job as a chef and starts a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise.” Don’t confuse it with the Bradley Cooper project also titled “Chef” that’s about a chef who lets his substance abuse get out of control and then tries to make a comeback. I feel like we should be able to combine these two plots and casts and all be better off.

Downey is, of course, in theaters right now in the megahit. He’s also booked to star in “The Judge,” That one is about “a big-city lawyer (Downey) who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town‘s judge, is suspected of murder. He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.” Every time I read about that movie, I just think “Good lord, that sounds awful.” Downey is also negotiating a super paycheck for “The Avengers 2.”
