Road to Nowhere: McCarthy Adaptation Not Ready?

The charming and talented Viggo Mortensen appears to be stuck on The Road. Hitch, Viggo!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Road is at a crossroads and might not be ready for a 2008 release.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Cormac McCarthy, The Road is about a man traveling with his young son through a bleak, post-apocalyptic world. Viggo Mortensen stars as said travelin’ man.
Critical favorites Mortensen and McCarthy made this movie natural Oscar bait. But it’s already been pushed back from its November 16th release date, and it’s tentative December release is also in jeopardy. Word is that the film, directed by John Hillcoat, just isn’t ready. It’s in post-production now.
Okay, if it can’t make a December date, when could it come out? Like I said, this film is thought to have high Oscar potential. Releasing it in the first few months of the year would raise worries that it would be forgotten by the next awards period. Summer won’t work, as it’s certainly not light popcorn fare. So that leaves next fall into winter. The movie might have to wait almost a year if they don’t make this December’s release. The kid, played by young Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, might be grown up by the time movie comes out.
I’ve said it before–it’s a shame that movie release times have been narrowed down to only two choices–May through July, and October through December. Come on, guys, get it together. We need more Viggo before the year is out!
