Richard Madden Is Cinderella’s Prince

Prince Charming, indeed.

Fans of dreamy dark-haired royals, rejoice–Disney has announced that Richard Madden will play the role of the Prince in their new, live-action version of “Cinderella.” Lily Collins plays the title role, with Cate Blanchett as an imposing wicked stepmother. Kenneth Branagh directs.

Madden is best known for his role as Robb Stark on “Game of Thrones.” He’s aiming for king there, so prince is a bit of a comedown for him. On the bright side, it is Disney, so it’s likely this role will involve more pretty clothes and castles in mild climates, and less grungy battle gear in dank, gray places.

Before “Game of Thrones,” Madden has mostly worked in British TV, in series such as “Hope Springs,” “Sirens,” and “Birdsong.” He’s been cast in “Klondike,” a miniseries for Discovery Channel that’s being produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free company.
