This year's late summer hit?
We’ve reached what is essentially the high point of the summer, so I thought Id give you a calendar so we can see what’s left to look forward to at your local cineplex or art house.
The biggest movie left is, of course, “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 20th, followed by “Total Recall” on August 3rd and “The Bourne Legacy” on August 10th. The biggest comedy is probably the poorly retitled “The Watch.” For kids, “Ice Age: Continental Drift” is already a huge hit overseas and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is now a reliable franchise. On the indie side, “Easy Money,” the Swedish movie known as “Snabba Cash” starring Joel Kinnaman sounds like fun. “Searching for Sugar Man” was a big hit on the festival circuit, while “Ruby Sparks” and “Killer Joe” have also gotten good early notices. “Sparkle,” with Whitney Houston’s last screen appearance, has a lot of curiosity around it.
