Reese Witherspoon Puts On “The Beard”

By Kirsten Anderson Casting

Reese Witherspoon will be in "The Beard" but hopefully won't wear a beard.

Reese Witherspoon’s been in dramatic territory with “The Devil’s Knot,” Atom Egoyan’s feature version of the West Memphis Three story that’s currently filming. After that, though, she’ll head back to the world of romantic comedy, which is what audiences generally prefer for her (sorry Reese, the Oscar didn’t buy you much cred with the masses). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon will star in “The Beard,” a comic spec script from Becca Green.

No plot details are available, but we doubt it’s about Witherspoon growing a beard. Historically “a beard” is someone who acts as a cover for someone else (like a beard covers your face–get it? ha ha). Like if your friend is dating a married man but wants to cover her tracks by making it seem like she’s involved with someone else, so you pretend you’re with her. Or if your friend is cheating on his or her spouse and does it by saying he or she is out with you while actually out with the homewrecker. Or back in ye olde days if a guy wanted to cover the fact that he was gay and would have a female friend pretend to be his girlfriend or even his wife.

So yeah, imagine any or all of those scenarios in a comedy starring Reese Witherspoon. Aww, isn’t she cute? Sure.
