Reece Ritchie Joins “Hercules”

Reece Ritchie will write poetry about Dwayne Johnson's "Hercules."

Casting news for one of the Hercules movies! This would be the Brett Ratner directed “Hercules” starring Dwayne Johnson, not the 3D Kellan Lutz one that’s also in development. Deadline reports that the newest actor to be awed as Johnson performs his mighty feats is Reece Ritchie. He will play Iolaus, Hercules’s nephew, “who eagerly promotes Hercules’ achievements and adventures. A poet, Iolaus is forced in the film to also become a warrior alongside his uncle.” Uh oh, warrior poets…

Ritchie has been seen on the big screen in “The Lovely Bones” and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” He’s done a lot of TV in his native UK, with series such as “White Heat” and “Pete Versus Life.” He’ll next be seen in “Desert Dancer,” where he stars with Freida Pinto.

The cast of “Hercules” also includes Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie and John Hurt. It’s set to be released on July 25, 2014.
