Ratner Takes on Youngblood

This Youngblood, not, unfortunately…
…this Youngblood.

Variety reports that Brett Ratner will direct an adaptation of the graphic novel “Youngblood.” Reliance Media, which owns the rights to “Youngblood” made the deal with Ratner’s Rat Entertainment.
Sadly, this ”Youngblood” is not at all related to the so-bad-it’s-good Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze ’80s hockey movie. Rather, it’s about a “superhero team overseen and sanctioned by the US government.”
Ratner is enthusiastic. Sir?
“Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and ‘Youngblood’ is one of the few comicbooks left with tentpole potential,” Ratner told Daily Variety. “It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (‘Youngblood’), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”
Nevertheless, I can’t help but hope that somehow they can work a classic line like, “You can learn to punch in the barn, but you gotta learn to survive on the ice” into the story somehow.
What can we say about Brett Ratner as a director? Well, he’ll get the film done on time, won’t go over budget, and will show up at the premiere and afterparty with an inexplicably hot babe.
Ratner and Reliance will also be working together on a film version of the French graphic novel, “Fly Wires.” The movie will be called “Infinity.” Sylvain White (”Stomp the Yard”) will direct John Collee’s adaptation of the original material.
